Damage Threshold Test

***This is for estimation purposes only using these test conditions, using different conditions will have different results

Test conditions:

(See Figure 1)

1.06µ Nd:YAG Laser,

Freq. = 10pps,

Aperture = 1550µ

Laser Pulse Width (duration) = 50 µs

Spot diameter in focal plane

  25µ = 2.5 x 10-3cm

Readout = Molectron #5200 power meter with PM3 detector

Readout integration time constant = 1.0 sec

Calculations:

Spot area = πr 2 = 3.14 x 1.25
x 1.25 x 10-6 cm2 = 4.91 x 10-6 cm2

Measured Ratio of P (Focal Plane) to P Laser Output) = 566mW / 1,280mW = 0.442

Laser Power averaged over one second.  (See fig 3).

Parameters:

Integrated Pulse Power (mW) = Power (F.P.) / 10

Pulse Energy (J)  =  Integrated Pulse Power (mW) / Integration time (ms)

Pulse Power (W) = Pulse Energy  (mJ) / Pulse Duration (ms)

Pulse Irradiance (W/cm2) = Pulse Power (W) / Spot Area (cm2)

Pulse Energy Density (J/cm2) = Pulse Energy (J) / Spot Area (cm2)
